Gabriel’s Regret (SYNOPSIS)

Cover

Gabriel Medlov has lived two very different lives in his 30 years on this earth, mostly because of his very different parents & paths.

Gabriel’s mother, Emma Hutton, was born into British royalty with billions of dollars but after her mother married the rugged Russian mobster, Dmitry Medlov, and gave him her inheritance, she denounced her family and became a freedom fighter, spending most of her life in the trenches of third-world countries fighting for the oppressed until her untimely death.

Gabriel’s father, Ivan Medlov, was a lot less selfless – a reputed Russian crime boss, the brother of Dmitry Medlov, and a rabid sociopath, he spent his life running guns, women and drugs until his nephew, Anatoly Medlov, murdered him.

With parents on two far extremes of the spectrum of good and evil, Gabriel was born right in the middle and spent most of his life as a second-string beta.  Until now.  After a series of bad events, the brooding, six-foot-nine, black-haired, blue-eyed, safe bet is on the verge of self-actualization or self-destruction, only he doesn’t know it.

All Gabriel does know is that his normally level-headed thinking and cool exterior are starting to give way to a much more violent and vocal monster that may or may not have been lurking below the surface for many years.

After a major fall-out with his live-in girlfriend in front of the entire family, Gabriel is sent from the palatial confines of the Medlov compound to the war-torn country of Ukraine to oversee a large munitions deal worth millions of dollars.  For Gabriel, this trip is a punishment for his recent philandering and general loss of control, but for Dmitry, it’s a test to determine what kind of man his nephew is turning into.

When Gabriel arrives in the war-torn country of Ukraine, he is met by militia who are fighting a regional war on an international stage.  As Russia shifts its focus to Syria, its military forces are being pulled out of the Ukraine.  This allows a very small opportunity to take over a much needed border town with an airport, but the militia must move fast.  Ready to business as usual and get back to the states, Gabriel is transported and introduced to the head of the militia – Valeriya Nenya.

The music stops.  The world stops.  Gabriel’s heart stops.  Who is this black woman and how did she just still his heart?

Born into a life of poverty and hate, Valeriya Nenya, is no princess and no priss.  She is, however, fighting not only against Russians who want to come in and take over her country but also Neo-Nazi separatists who have been terrorizing the country from within for years. With access of munitions and other aide cut off by the outside world, Gabriel Medlov and the Medlov Crime Family becomes Valeriya’s only hope to winning this war.

Blocked from leaving after an air strike, Gabriel is forced to imbed with the militia until Dmitry can get him help.  While he is there, he is forced to see the world from a very different lens.  Third world poverty, extreme racism, violence and starvation take on a whole new meaning as he discovers what Valeriya is fighting against.   He also, for the first time, sees what his mother died fighting for.  Only, with his father’s blood and his family’s trade, Gabriel discovers what he was possibly made to do and the movement and woman who will shift him from being a beta in the world of Medlov to an Alpha in a world of regret.

Spend Your Sunday Reading The Grunt 2, A Guaranteed Touchdown

Unless you’re a football fan (guilty as charged), then Sunday’s holiday won’t have much of a draw for you. And if you plan to use your day of doing something outside of watching millionaire’s toss the pig skin, then you might want to consider gobbling up a good HEA.

That’s right. The Grunt 2 is all about Courtney and Brett Black finding their happy ending. You can grab a glass of wine, a cup of coffee or tea, some cookies and a warm blanket and curl up to a military interracial romance (bw/wm) that is filled with a few laughs, a few cries and a few moments of utter victory.

But if you do happen to be watching THE GAME tomorrow, then you might consider topping off the evening after your team wins, with a good read to calm you down.

Only $3.99 for over 300 pages of excitement. If you haven’t read The Grunt, then start there. It’s definitely a fun read and if you like steamy, hot, sexy love scenes, then you’ll love this Grunt especially. Brett Black knows a thing or two about how to make a woman feel special.

But don’t take my word for it. Check it out for yourself. The Grunt and The Grunt 2, part of The Lonely Heart Series. Available for purchase today on Amazon’s Kindle and other select e-book platforms.  Also, when you’re done, don’t forget to tell me what you think.  Post a review or send me an email to Latrivia@LatriviaWelch.com.

Happy Founders Day To My Wonderful Sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

166645_538008031761_133000312_30840541_3214514_n.148120201_std

I’d like to wish each and every member of my illustrious sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, a Happy Founders Day.  108 years of service and still committed to the mission.  My sisterhood has been one filled with magnificent and bold women, determined not only to make their lives better, but also to make our communities better.   I pledged at Beta Tau (LeMoyne-Owen College).  When I stepped on to the campus back in 1998, I knew three things:  I wanted to be a great scholar; I wanted to be Ms. LeMoyne-Owen College, and I wanted to be a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority (God’s favor on me allowed me to become President of my chapter).  I knew that I was not going to leave that campus until I accomplished each of those goals.  What I learned is that it would take a lot more than “one” person – me – to do that.  The women and men on that campus who helped me, tutored me, mentored me and propelled me into a better future always deserve acknowledgement for their selfless efforts.  The love only grew after graduation was even more surreal.  Belonging to something so great, makes you feel greater.  There is nothing like arriving off a plane in a city where you don’t know a soul and seeing a the face of a sister, nothing like applying for job and sitting across the interview table from a sister, going to a bank to get a loan and talking to a sister, giving birth to your child and being cared for by a sister, watching the First Lady of the United States and being proud of your sister, looking at your daughter and hoping she’ll become your sister.   My line sisters.  My big sisters.  My Greek Sisters.  My Skee-Phi brothers.  Other Greeks on the Yard who believed in the Divine 9 and our ability to change cultures.   All of you have a special place in my heart.

2015 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 24,000 times in 2015. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 9 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Appalled at Trump’s New Muslim-Ban Suggestion

americanflag

No, I’m not happy with what happened in Paris.  I’m not happy with what happened in San Bernardino. I’m not happy with 9/11.  I’m not happy with the fact that we’re still in war in the Middle East. I’m not happy with the precious American life lost in a war where men and women who didn’t die in war most often came back emotionally damaged and physically mauled.

ptsd-soldier-crying-300x200

But I think many others across this country and world are mad too, including most people of the Muslim faith, and most of the civilized nations – yes, even third world nations.  Let’s not get all ethnocentric and amnesic here in a country based in not only a beautiful melting pot but also centuries of systematic ethnic oppression.  We are in no place to judge.  Our very future depends on the ability for us to stick together; to uplift others; to believe in unity.  And also, what does that say to all of our patriots who gave their lives in Iraq, Afghanistan and other places in the hope that they were liberating and protecting Muslims?  SMH.

I don’t want to get into the usual, “my best friend is Muslim” conversation as to suggest that just because we know someone who is Muslim then that gives us the right to condemn or not to condemn an entire people.  What I believe is that regardless of whether you know someone who is Muslim or not, you will not allow yourself to become a hate mongering idiot.  Because then, what better would you be than our own enemy?  And no one wants to be identified as a Hitler sympathizer, which is what Trump would have you do.  He’s basically like “Let’s give them all numbers on the wrist and corral them like cattle.”  Are you serious?  Are you F*c#ing serious?  What about all our Muslim leaders, our doctors, our lawyers, our historians, our military personnel, our first responders, our neighbors…the list goes on to the point where I am exhausted.  And you should be too, at the hateful rhetoric.

maxresdefault Kareem-Abdul-Jabbar-Net-Worth aasif-mandvi

Yes, I’m a good Catholic (my faith is my own and my desire is to please only Him), but nearly 1/4th of this world is Muslim.  How do you cut 1/4 of the human population out of the conversation of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?    To believe that all these people (1.6 billion with a B) want to kill Americans is…paranoid schizophrenia.  To suggest that we boot everyone out of our country who doesn’t think like us is un-American. To suggest that we can’t help someone of another faith in their time of need, like Syrian refugees, is STUPID.  To condemn those who are giving their lives to fight ISIS is inhumane.  To say that these people, HUMANS MIND YOU, have no right to life is immoral.  I don’t want any part of that crazy train.  And I’m embarrassed that he’s been given a mic to express himself.  I thought we normally kept those types in the back room of grandma’s house away from phones and other electronics.

Dr. Wohrman Saved Me (DENTAL STORY)

My daughter broke her tooth on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We were devastated and without a lot of options considering the time and the day. My husband was on a mission to find a dentist and went through a long list of calls, leaving messages, stressing urgency. It was crazy.

Then a dentist called us back. He was warm and understanding and told us to head right over. We did, in the pouring rain mind you, and our daughter screamed the entire way.

I came into the office frazzled.

First impression of the office and staff were great. Clean, nice office. Very nice staff to greet you. We didn’t wait any time. Dr. Wohrman jumped right on it. Dealing with my nine year old is not easy. She was cranky until she saw him. He smiled and joked with her and made her forget the pain (how is that possible?).

The hard part was of course numbing the area around the tooth. Well, I thought – GOOD LUCK WITH THAT. But to his credit, he worked his magic with his team and encouraged her the entire time.

2 hours after the tooth broke, 30 minutes after arriving to the dentist, it was extracted and she was happy again.

This doctor deserves his kudos for his customer service, patience and professionalism. But if you’re like me, you want great bed-side manner. He was amazing. He even called the Monday following the disaster to check on her. I’d recommend him to anyone. GIVE SOMEONE WHO CARES YOUR BUSINESS!!! HE CARES.
